A career at the forefront of digestive medicine.
Internationally recognized for his work in gastroenterology and hepatology, Dr. Sachdev has spent more than five decades in clinical practice — performing tens of thousands of procedures, advancing the treatment of hepatitis C, and earning the trust of patients across generations in East Tennessee.
Dr. Arvinder J. Sachdev is widely regarded as one of the most experienced gastroenterologists practicing in the United States today. Over a career of more than five decades, he has completed more than 75,000 upper endoscopies and colonoscopies with outstanding clinical outcomes, and is one of the nation's most proficient hepatologists, with a particular distinction in novel approaches to the treatment of hepatitis C. He has successfully cured more than 2,000 patients of hepatitis infection.
His clinical practice spans the entire breadth of gastroenterology and hepatology — from preventive screening colonoscopy and the management of reflux and inflammatory bowel disease, to the long-term care of chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and complex digestive disorders. Patients are referred to him from across East Tennessee and beyond, and many travel considerable distances for his evaluation.
Dr. Sachdev earned his medical degree from Government Medical College in 1969 and completed his residency in internal medicine at Hahnemann University Medical Center. He undertook his fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, training under leading figures in the discipline. He is board-certified in both gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine — the principal certifying body for the specialty in the United States.
On a national stage, Dr. Sachdev has presented at numerous medical meetings in the United States and abroad. He previously held faculty appointments at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and at the University of Toronto, Wellesley Hospital, where he contributed to the training of the next generation of gastroenterologists. He is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases — the three principal professional bodies in the field.
For more than 25 years he has called Morristown home, where his practice — Digestive Disease Centers of Tennessee — has become known for compassionate, unhurried care. He does not stream patients based on insurance type and welcomes commercial, Medicare, and TennCare coverage equally. On a personal note, he has been happily married to his wife for over 48 years, and in his spare time enjoys time with his family, walks in his neighborhood, reading, and playing with his grandchildren.
